How Safe is Costa Rica?
Costa Rica is considered to be the safest country in Central America with crime generally limited to a few areas in the capital of San Jose.
The primary type of crime seen in Costa Rica is petty theft, with violent types of crimes being rare. You should not wear flashy jewelry, or carry expensive computer or camera equipment if it can be avoided. Common sense should be used at all times, and activities such as late-night partying, flashing large amounts of cash, and heavy drinking or drug use should be avoided. The best way not to find yourself in the position of becoming a crime victim is to always pay attention to your surroundings, and be respectful of the wonderful country you are visiting.
